One person was killed and another person was taken to the hospital early Sunday morning after a wrong-way driver caused a four car accident involving a tanker truck.The crash happened just after 3:30 a.m. on I-77 North near the Broadway Avenue exit.The tanker truck attempted to swerve off of the highway to miss the wrong-way driver.
EMS officials said one woman was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in stable condition following the crash.
The fire department also said 500 gallons of fuel spilled onto the highway following the accident.
I-77 North is closed at the Broadway Avenue exit as crews continue to clean the fuel off of the highway. Drivers are being diverted to the Pershing Avenue exit. All access to I-77 North will be shut down between I-480 and Pershing Avenue for the foreseeable future due to cleanup.
