Traffic headache continues for commuters after tractor-trailer crash on NE Loop 820

A truck driver was critically injured Sunday night after he crashed his tractor-trailer through an elevated concrete wall and fell onto the freeway median of Northeast Loop 820, according to television news reports.

Only one lane of westbound Northeast Loop 820 was open Monday morning.

The crash occurred about 10 p.m. Sunday at Northeast Loop 820 and Iron Horse Boulevard where Texpress toll road exit comes to an end above the toll lanes, according to reports.

The truck driver, who has not been identified, didn’t stop at the end of the exit and crashed through the wall.

The cab fell to the ground below while the trailer was left suspended off the edge of the bridge, according to the news accounts. Most of its load of mayonnaise spilled to the ground.

Police shut down down parts of the highway for a medical helicopter, and then most of the highway remained closed Monday morning.

TEXpress lanes remained open Monday morning. Eastbound lanes of Northeast 820 are unaffected by the crash while one lane of westbound 820 is open while the crash is cleared.
