Tanker truck driver cited for collision while responding to fire

TILTON, Ill. (WAND) – Illinois State Police is investigating after a water tanker truck responding to a fire was struck on Monday afternoon. The crash happened in Tilton along Route 1 and Ross Lane, just before 2 p.m. According to a witness, the truck collided with a van at the intersection. ISP says the fire truck rolled over when the mini van struck the truck. The tanker truck was responding to a fire in Westville with their emergency lights and sirens activated. The van had a green light when the fire truck proceeded through the the red light and the two vehicles collided. Two people were inside the tanker and one person was in the van. All had to be extracted from their vehicles and were all taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the tanker was issued a citation for disobeyed traffic control device.
