Tractor-trailer fire on I-78 , smoke visible for miles

A tractor-trailer fire on Interstate 78 eastbound in Hunterdon County has jammed traffic on the busy highway for miles Wednesday morning. Delays reached 8 miles earlier, but the lanes have since been re-opened, according to State Police. Earlier, the right and center lanes were closed near exit 15 (Route 173) in Franklin Township.

Crews from Clinton Fire assisted by Quakertown NJ Fire Company-91 Fire/Rescue,Annandale Hose Company,and Clinton First Aid and Rescue Squad, Inc. Responded this morning to route 78 in the town of Clinton. Great team work by all. Thank you to all our mutual aid partners.

No other vehicles were involved and the driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt, Sgt. First Class Jeff Flynn said. Photos posted on social media show flames shooting from the cab of the tractor-trailer, which is parked on the shoulder.
