A tractor-trailer driver suffered fatal injuries Friday morning after his vehicle hit a center divider on Interstate 80 and then the University Avenue overpass, authorities said.The driver’s name was not released, pending notification of relatives.The wreck happened about 8:52 a.m. Friday in the westbound lanes of the freeway at University Avenue.A Sig-alert was issued at 9:02 a.m. for three westbound lanes and one eastbound lane, the CHP said.CHP Officer Matthew Hamer said the truck driver was pulling an empty dumpster when the tractor part suffered a flat tire, causing it to go across traffic lanes and hit the center divider. The trailer hit the overpass causing them to separate from each other.The driver was ejected onto the roadway but was not hit by any other vehicles.The tractor part continued on for another 50 yards before stopping on its own, Hamer said.The driver was taken to a hospital, where he died, authorities said.All lanes were reopened shortly after noon after the investigation was completed. debris was cleared from the roadway and the overpass inspected by Caltrans for structural integrity, Hamer said.
