Two people were taken to the hospital when a tractor-trailer overturned after hitting a box truck on I-140 in New Hanover County Tuesday morning. According to Trooper Phillips with the NC Highway Patrol, witnesses say the box truck and the tractor-trailer were traveling eastbound on I-140 when the tractor-trailer suddenly jackknifed hitting the box truck. Phillips said the tractor-trailer likely hydroplaned.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions are not known. Phillips said the tractor-trailer driver will likely be charged with exceeding safe speed under conditions. The inside lanes on both eastbound and westbound I-140 are closed as crews work to clear the scene. Motorists are urged to find alternate routes as officials work to clear the scene.
