Machin’s driver Craig Hartgrove has been awarded with an official ‘Highway Patrol’ torch, and a ‘Challenge Coin’, for offering his load of Mt Franklin water to help fight a truck fire in October last year.NSW Chief Inspector Phil Brooks and Chief Superintendent Jayson McKellar from the New South Wales Rural Fire Service presented the awards, alongside a slick looking Machin’s tanker. When Craig saw the truck fire on the Hume near Berrima, he pulled up his tanker and offered his 45,000 litres of Mount Franklin water. Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW crews were able to use the water to help control the flames. The driver of the truck involved in the fire made a lucky escape and was treated for minor injuries.
