The driver of an 18-wheel truck that was carrying U.S. mail was killed Monday morning in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 95 in Florence.The driver was killed when the southbound truck veered to the right off of the highway and struck a tree, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.The driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was identified as Antoine Dramou, 27, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, according to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken.A passenger in the truck, a 2006 Volvo 18-wheeler, was transported to a local hospital, according to von Lutcken. The condition of the passenger is not known.It is not known if Dramou was wearing a seat belt, according to the SCHP.West Florence Fire Department firefighters were dispatched at approximately 5:30 a.m. to the accident near the 164 mile marker. Firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate Dramou, according to West Florence Fire Department Captain Anthony Fox.DHEC was notified because of a diesel spill from the truck’s fuel tanks.The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Florence County emergency medical services also were on the scene.The cause of the crash is under investigation by the SCHP.Some lanes are closed as a result of this incident.
