An overturned tractor trailer snarled traffic Thursday afternoon on the Pennsylvania Turnpike between New Stanton and Irwin. Multiple fire departments, including New Stanton and Youngwood, responded to the scene near milepost 69.8 in Hempfield about five miles west of the New Stanton interchange, according to a Westmoreland County emergency dispatch supervisor. The tractor trailer hit the concrete median barrier and overturned around 12:30 p.m., spilling mulch on the roadway. One lane reopened to traffic in each direction just after 1 p.m. One person was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, dispatchers said. No further information on the crash was immediately available.
