The driver of a truck that was struck by a train near Cocoa died Monday evening, according to reports from Florida Highway Patrol. Steven Robinson, 49, was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center where he died of injuries he received when he attempted to maneuver around the crossing arm on Beau Geste Road just before noon Monday. Troopers said the Lakeland man tried to beat the train but was unable to clear the tracks when the locomotive, moving approximately 25 to 30 mph, struck the trailer of his truck, dragging the cab into the nearby battery box. FHP reports identify the driver of the train as Glen Spaulding, saying that he received minor injuries from the collision when he was derailed.
The crash remains under investigation.
