New York police say that a truck driver is dead following a violent police chase on Wednesday.

The incident reportedly began on Wednesday evening in LeRoy, New York, when officers attempted to pull over a semi truck for speeding.

Leroy police officers said that the truck driver was not compliant and even drove away with a police officer still on the truck.

A police pursuit ensued on I-390. Officers attempted to use spike strips to slow the semi.

During the pursuit, the truck driver attempted to ram both passenger and police vehicles and opened fire on law enforcement responding to the incident, according to local news outlet 13WHAM.

The incident ended in a field near Route 20A in Geneseo after police fired multiple shots at the truck.

Police have confirmed that the truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

No police officers were hit by gunfire, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.

Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty said, “We have a lot of scenes to tech and a lot of gun fire was exchanged. I will confirm here the operator of the vehicle is deceased, and we’re working through the timeline to find out who this guy is and why this happened.”

This is a developing story and the incident is under investigation.
