Two people were hurt in a tractor-trailer rollover on Interstate 84 West in Vernon that snagged traffic in the area for hours Monday. According to Connecticut State Police, the tractor-trailer was driving in the left lane on I-84 westbound when it veered right and struck a Jeep traveling in the center lane. The tractor-trailer then went off the left shoulder and rolled over. The force of the crash pushed the Jeep into the right shoulder, then the vehicle veered left and struck a guardrail on the left shoulder. The driver of the tractor-trailer was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated. He was taken to Hartford Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Jeep did not report any injuries but was taken to Manchester Hospital for evaluation as a precaution. Police shut down the highway for around half an hour and traffic remained down to one lane sometime after. There was another crash in the same area on the eastbound side of the highway as crews were cleaning up the wreck, according to police. Edgar Jackson, of Vernon, described the scene of the crash as a mess. “Looked like a war zone,” he said. “Cars everywhere, trucks on the side. A mess.” The Department of Consumer Protection and Environmental Services were called in because the truck was carrying consumer products. The crash remains under investigation.
