A truck driver was fatally struck by an SUV Sunday as he was walking along Interstate 81 after his rig became disabled. Police say at approximately 1:30 p.m. William James Taylor, 58, of Robertsdale, Alabama, was struck and k*lled by a 2007 Dodge Journey after the 42-year-old driver of the SUV lost control due to ice and slush on the roadway from a snowstorm. According to the Kingsport Police Department, Taylor’s tractor-trailer became disabled along the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 near exit 66. He was struck after he exited his truck and began walking off of the interstate. Officials say a 28-year-old woman, a 5-year-old boy, and an 8-month-old child were passengers in the SUV. None of them, including the driver of the SUV, was injured. Police say their investigation into this incident is ongoing.
