A tractor-trailer flipped over on Interstate 490 around 2:47 Monday afternoon near the South Avenue exit, according to New York State Police. The flat-bed truck was carrying bags of peat moss, which spilled out across the roadway. Traffic was initially limited to one lane in both directions as crews worked on a light pole that was struck.

As of 6:40 p.m. Monday, all lanes were open, according to police. The crash occurred on a stretch of highway where high speeds and sharp turns have contributed to other tractor-trailer accidents.

In 2016, a tractor-trailer carrying scrap metal overturned nearby, forcing thousands of motorists to exit the highway and creep along downtown streets to skirt the accident scene. A year earlier, another tractor-trailer overturned at precisely the same spot, spilling a trailer full of cabbage.
