Area emergency personnel are working the scene of a reportedly fatal accident near Iowa Park in which a vehicle became fully engulfed in flames, according to scanner reports.  The wreck happened on U.S. Highway 287 west of Iowa Park near Harmony Road and the Northwest Access Road around 8:30 p.m. A vehicle appeared to have collided into the back of the tractor trailer. Both vehicles burst into flames. Any occupants in the vehicle were reportedly trapped and did not survive the crash, but it was unclear if the driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time. No injuries were reported from the tractor trailer. The traffic was being diverted while first responders attempted to get the blaze under control.

Area firefighters were able to get the fire extinguished shortly after 9:10 p.m., but traffic was still being rerouted as Texas Department of Public Safety troopers began their investigation. Wichita County Sheriff’s deputies were called to assist with rerouting traffic around 8:41 p.m. and four units remained on scene as of 10:30 p.m.  Air Evac was initially requested to the scene, but was cancelled shortly before 9 p.m. The Times Record News will update with more information once it is released by DPS officials.
